Brain is a Stockholm based band and consists of Mats Sandberg (lead vocals and keyboards), Clyde Blomberg (guitar and vocals), Pär-Ola Henriksson (bass and vocals) and Dan West (drums). The music is melodic rock in a 70's style, with a touch of blues and progressive rock. Even though the vocals has a central position you will find instrumental parts in almost every song. Originally we started as a cover band playing mostly songs of the legendary british group Free. After a while that wasn't fun anymore so we decided to make our own music. Rock from the late 60's and early 70's is the common denominator for us so the songs tend to sound like they came from that era. Brain doesn't have a songwriter. The music are a result of jam sessions where we all have musical input. The exception are the lyrics where Sigyn Avis (one might say the fifth member) has written the most of it and the rest is written by Mats. In spring 2014 we began the recording of 12 songs which resulted in a CD with 5 songs, released in september 2015.

Mats 2

Mats Sandberg - lead vocals and keyboards

Born January 12, 1960 in Gävle but grew up in Östersund. I started playing in a band called Gribbick 1978. Between 1982 and 1985 I played in the group Café Midnatt. In 1982 the group finished in third place in a national rock band contest, which was won by Europe. Our third price was to record the single Varma minnen/Ge mig liv with Dan Hylander as the producer. Thomas Erdtman, who became Europes manager, was the guy that organised the contest, and as a jurymember he voted for us as the winners. I guess he didn´t regret being let down by the rest of the jury. I left Östersund for Stockholm 1986 and for a couple of years I played in the blues band Bob Beamon and the bluejumpers. Then came a long period without playing in bands until I met two guys at a party. And that was the start of Brain.

The Beatles, T-Rex, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Joni Mitchell are some of my biggest musical influences.

Danne 2

Dan West - drums

Born June 14, 1957 in Vaplan. My interest in the drums came about the age  of 11 when I started playing with some friends in the village. When I was 13 I started a rock band with a guitarplayer from the neighboring village. We played our favorites like Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, but also some original songs. When I was about 17 we decided to play professionally so the band transformed to a dance-band named Stefanz. The 70's was really the golden era for dance-bands in Sweden, so we played almost every night. After 5 years it was time to go on so I left the band to educate myself to a music teacher. After studies I've been working as a music teacher and as a session musician with a number of artists and bands in genres as rock, jazz and entertainment.

A selection of bands/musicians that inspired me in the rock genre are in chronological order: The Animals, The Ventures, Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Genesis, Frank Zappa, Queen and Stevie Wonder.

Pär-Ola Henriksson - bass and vocals

Born January 31, 1962 in Östersund. I began playing bass in an instrumental jazz-rock group at the age of 14. Then I joined the early Swedish punkrock group Shit Kids in 1978 which recorded 2 EP's,  Jag måste ha ett jobb and Rik mans flicka, before we split up in 1980. Became a member of the power pop trio Spade between 1980 - 1982 before leaving Östersund for Stockholm. Once in Stockholm I went back to the instrumental music as a member of the prog- art rock quartet DumDurumDum. The quartet did some performances on art exhibitions and similar events and existed from time to time until 1997 when I put the bass on the shelf. However the desire to play came back and 2007 I became one of the founders of what would become Brain.

My musical influences come from a wide area. To mention some of them: Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Ventures, Herbie Hancook, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Rush and Elvis Costello. I'm very broad in my music taste and listen to music from almost any genre.

Clyde 2

Clyde Blomberg - guitar and vocals

Born September 19, 1959 in Strömsund. I started as a bassplayer in the punkrock group Cyklon B in 1978 which recorded the single Kris. In 1979 I switched to guitar and founded the pop/rock group Wattson together with the drummer from Cyklon B. Short after the release of the single Radiobil/Lär dig slåss we splitted in 1981 and I left Strömsund for Stockholm. There I was one of the founders of punk/new wave/prog-rock group Skallarna which released the single Leva och sparka/Sal nr.5 in 1983. In 1986 Skallarna disbanded and I joined the prog- art rock group DumDurumDum, which did some performances on art exhibitions and similar events. I participated from time to time until the group ended in 1997. Between 1989 and 1995 I played with the 70's rock cover band Welcome Back Jack. At the same time I started working as a musician in contemporary dance and theater and the last performance I did was 2000. Then came a period when I played very little but in the early 2000's the urge to play returned and I was one of the founders of the cover band that in 2007 became Brain.

The most important musical influences are Alice Cooper, Rush, Sex Pistols, The Police, King Crimson, SAHB, Black Sabbath and AC/DC. Of course there are a lot of other music I listen to but these bands has followed me through the years and I still like them.
